TL;DR
GTA 6 targets 30fps on consoles. Rockstar North's Rob Nelson told a creator in August that the game runs at 30fps and that a 60fps option is a question for the technical team Reported. No 60fps or performance mode is confirmed on any console, including PS5 Pro. The only official signals are a "PS5 Pro Enhanced" label on PlayStation and an "Optimized for Xbox Series X|S" badge, with no numbers attached. Digital Foundry measured about 1440p at a stable 30fps in PS5 footage.

Is GTA 6 30fps or 60fps?
Reported GTA 6 targets 30fps on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. During a behind-the-scenes visit before the August 27 Extended Look, Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson told Brazilian creator Davy Jones (Flow Games) that the game runs at 30fps, and that he'd need to consult the technical team on whether a 60fps option could come "at launch or later" (TweakTown, Tom's Hardware).
That came secondhand, from a creator's account of a conversation about a build still in development. Rockstar hasn't published a frame rate, resolution or graphics-mode list on any official channel as of October 26, 2026.

Will GTA 6 run at 60fps on PS5 Pro?
Confirmed The PlayStation listing calls GTA 6 "PS5 Pro Enhanced" (PlayStation.com). Sony gives that label to games with an improved Pro version, but what improves (sharper image, steadier frame rate, a separate mode) varies by game, and Rockstar hasn't said.
Reported Digital Foundry doesn't expect 60fps. Its reasoning: GTA 6's crowds, traffic and physics are heavy on the CPU, and the PS5 Pro's CPU is almost the same as the base PS5's, worth roughly a 7% gain in CPU-limited scenes. The Pro's bigger GPU helps image quality, not a CPU bottleneck (TweakTown).
Bottom line: buy a PS5 Pro for its known strengths (2 TB of storage, a stronger GPU), not for a GTA 6 60fps mode that nobody has promised.
What resolution does GTA 6 run at?
Reported Digital Foundry measured the August Extended Look at about native 1440p and a stable, well-paced 30fps on a base PS5, with only occasional single-frame drops (TweakTown).
Reported Its October 16 look at the Launch Trailer found the same ~1440p upscaled to a 4K output, saw no clear sign of Sony's new QSSR upscaler, and noticed that the camera and animation stutter seen in earlier RAGE-engine games (and earlier GTA 6 trailers) appeared to be gone. Digital Foundry stresses that a short trailer can't prove that for the final game (Digital Foundry).
Confirmed The Extended Look was captured entirely from in-game PS5 footage (Netflix Tudum)..
How will GTA 6 run on Xbox Series S?
Confirmed Xbox Series S is a launch platform; the Xbox Store carries the "Optimized for Xbox Series X|S" badge with no 4K, 60fps or ray tracing badge (Xbox). Microsoft and Rockstar haven't published Series S resolution or frame rate.
Rumor Older Digital Foundry speculation (before any footage) guessed around 720p on Series S and 1440p on PS5/Series X, all at 30fps (IGN Brasil). Treat it as an educated guess.
Watch your storage. A 512 GB Series S has only about 364 GB usable Reported. Our pre-load and file size guide covers how much to clear before pre-load opens November 12.
PS5 vs PS5 Pro vs Xbox Series X: which is best for GTA 6?
- PS5 Pro: the only console with an official GTA 6 enhancement label, plus 2 TB storage. The safe "best version" pick, but the specific gains are unannounced.
- PS5 and Xbox Series X: expected to be close; both show the 30fps target in reports.
- Xbox Series S: cheapest way in; expect the lowest resolution and plan for storage.
- PC: not announced. See GTA 6 PC release.

Will GTA 6 get a 60fps patch later?
Reported Nelson's "at launch or later" comment leaves the door open, but nothing is announced. History is mixed: GTA V launched at 30fps on PS3/Xbox 360 and only reached 60fps on the PS5/Series X|S versions years later, while Red Dead Redemption 2 never got an official 60fps console mode (TweakTown).
We'll update this page on launch day with the actual modes in the options menu. Until then, the full launch picture is in Everything confirmed.
